It's nerve-wracking when teenagers reach the age when they can begin driving. Parents always want to make sure that they teach and encourage safe driving habits, but they can't always be present when their teen driver is out on the road. Recognizing this conundrum, Chevrolet has developed an innovative, confidence-inspiring technology for its vehicles: Teen Driver Technology.
WHAT IS TEEN DRIVER TECHNOLOGY?
Teen Driver Technology is an available built-in system on Chevy vehicles that helps you train your new teen driver. The system keeps them on track, even when you're not in the vehicle with them, offering you a range of controls that you can set and monitor. For instance, you can set a speed alert to help curb risky speeding, and a volume limit on the infotainment system to help prevent loud, distracting music.
In addition to these settings, Teen Driver Technology offers the auto industry's first-ever in-vehicle report card, which reports on your teen's driving habits and behaviors, allowing you to review their performance once they return.
WHY IS TEEN DRIVER TECHNOLOGY IMPORTANT?
Various driver studies prompted Chevy to develop Teen Driver Technology, as teens have been shown to be more likely to make less-safe driving decisions than adults. Particularly, teens are:
• Less likely to wear seat belts than older drivers. A mere 61% of high-school-aged teens wear their seat belts when someone else is in the car.
• More likely to speed than adults.
• More likely to play loud, distracting music. A reported 93% of teen drivers admit to playing such music while driving.
WHAT DOES THE IN-VEHICLE REPORT CARD DISPLAY?
Teen Driver Technology's in-vehicle report card presents information on a range of driving habits for your review. For instance, the report card includes the total distance driven and the drive's maximum speed as well as the number of overspeed warnings and Forward Collision Alerts/Avoidance Braking incidents. With such information, you can discuss with your teen where they can continue improving.
