Indiana winter weather can be brutal. One way to battle the cold winds and snowfall of Fort Wayne is to get your Chevrolet Equinox ready for the winter. These are some winter maintenance tips for your Chevy Equinox to ensure it continues running smoothly throughout the colder months.
GIVE YOUR BATTERY A CHECK-UP
As the temperatures drop, your battery will become less efficient. That means your car might struggle to start in the winter - or might not start at all. Rather than finding yourself stranded with a dead battery, give your battery a check-up now. A volt test will test your battery's efficiency. Keep in mind that, if your battery is more than five years old, it's a good idea to get a brand-new replacement.
KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR TIRES
Your tires are what keep you connected to the road, which is why you need to take care of them throughout the year - but their care is particularly important during the winter. The dropping temperatures will cause the tires to lose pressure. Decreased tire pressure can make it difficult for your tires to gain traction on the road. Regularly check the tire pressure to ensure it's within the manufacturer's recommended range.
Also, make sure your tires' tread is at the appropriate depth. To check tread depth, do the Penny Test. Insert a penny into your tire tread with Lincoln's head facing toward the middle of your tire. If you can see the top of his head, then your tire tread is too low, and you need new tires.
TOP UP YOUR ANTIFREEZE
Your car needs antifreeze to - you guessed it - keep your car's engine from freezing. That's why it's important to check that you have the right antifreeze levels throughout the winter. Top it off if you need it, and don't forget to check that the reservoir doesn't have any leaks.
